In my work, I explore the often-overlooked layer of comfort that exists between the foot and the shoe, focusing on the intimate, yet unnoticed, connection we have with this boundary. Through the lens of preservation, I examine the materiality of socks, elevating their everyday significance. My ceramic socks, dipped in slip and fired to Cone 6, are then completed with a Cone 10 soda firing to preserve the detail and strength of the material. This process highlights the contrast between softness and strength, creating a tactile experience that invites viewers to reconsider the subtle yet essential role these objects play in our daily lives. Through this work, I aim to capture both the fragility and endurance in our most basic interactions with everyday objects of a significant importance.
